On the 29th of September, you need to have your camera in a handy hip-holster and your fingers wiggling in anticipation at the hilt. The best collections will win a prize and there will be snap-happy parties in cities round the world.

If you’re thinking of snapping London, find new angles with dozens of attractions and distractions.

And don't forget that all that creativity is hard work. You might need to re-fuel along the way.

Koulla chills out at Whittlebury Hall

Rain_showers_2
Whittlebury Hall Hotel and Spa is a located in the rural countryside of Northamptonshire, a short ride away from Milton Keynes station.

The day spa is very spacious with a lot of room to relax and unwind.  You are given a fluffy white robe and slippers to really get you in the mood for some serious pampering with their long list of Elemis and E’Spa products.  There are a number of treatments you can choose and there is even a hair studio so you can feel like a totally new person.

Massage_288x180The spa boasts wonderful heat and ice facilities where you move from steam room to steam room, raising your body temperature and then finally  braving the ice cave where you feel really invigorated.  This is great for circulation and also helps us with the battles of cellulite – every little helps in my case!  Once you have tried that, you move on to the hydrotherapy pool and this is a real treat with lots of different jets to get rid of the tension in your muscles.  It’s a bit like a giant Jacuzzi, which you will just not want to get out of!

We opted for the Rasul mud treatment where you start by rubbing a salt scrub over your skin and then rinsing it off, leaving your skin soft and ready for the mud.  In the chamber you are given three different types of mud, one for your face, one your hair and one for your body. Once you are covered in the stuff you sit in the chamber and then the mud is left to work on your skin while the room gets filled with steam.  After 15 minutes or so the showers above go into action to wash it all off.  Your skin is left soft and smooth.

DinnerWe also had a very relaxing dry floatation, I was very curious about this as I was wondering how floatation could possibly be dry but our lovely therapist explained all.  We lay down on a bed and the therapist rubbed a special salt scrub onto our skin and then wrapped us in a towel.  The bed then fills up with water and you are raised up and left to float on what feels like the sea. It was like being on the water without getting wet! I was left to float for about half an hour and actually fell asleep it was so relaxing.

You can relax on the patio outdoors if you wish to get some fresh air between treatments. The lovely surroundings are so peaceful.  Also if you get peckish the spa serves a light lunch to give you the energy for all the hard work of being pampered.

The hotel is 4 star rated with very comfortable rooms.  Each room has Molton Brown toiletries and even internet access.  The hotel has two dining rooms and the choice of food is very wide.
All in all this is a really good hotel with a very nice day spa, it is only a short distance away from London, but far enough to feel like you are getting away from it all.

Book a one night leisure break for two people at Whittlebury Hall from just £130*

Koulla checks in to Thoresby Hall Spa

Thoresby_hall_exterior
Thoresby Hall is located in Thoresby Park, in Nottinghamshire near Ollerton.  The stunning 18th century house simply takes your breath away.  It was restored to its former glory of grade 1 listed building after much extensive work.  Wonderfully restored parklands and grounds, including a Victorian rose garden, now surround it.

Room_type_signatureThe hotel is split into two parts, the old house and a newer building with further facilities.  The two are connected very well and you hardly realise you are going from one to the other.  You could be allocated a traditional room in the old house or a modern room in the new part of the hotel.  We stayed in both rooms and I personally loved the ambience of the traditional room, I felt like a Queen!

Heat_hydro_spa_pool_1The spa has a heated indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room, as well as gym with all the equipment you would need.  There is also a spa pool where you can benefit from the hydro jets and the lovely bubbles.  Surrounding this pool are 3 different steam rooms and finally the ice cave where you can cool down.  This is great to invigorate your skin.  You can also use the Rhassoul mud treatment room to exfoliate and cleanse your skin, leaving it feeling soft and silky.  There are several treatment rooms available with helpful staff offering a range of different treatments, all the way from Reiki to Algae Wraps.  There is also a relaxation room with a glass roof where you can have a snooze on a sun lounger or a waterbed and let the day go by.

The resort has lots to do after you have had a day full of pampering.  There are a number of outdoor activities for you to do including archery, croquet, bowls, fencing and tennis.  You can even hire a bike and explore the surroundings.

Pierrepont_restaurant_thoresbyThere are 3 restaurants to eat at, Le Bistro which has table service from a wide set menu, Pierrepont which operates a buffet and the very formal Blue Room a la carte restaurant.  After dinner there is entertainment every night where different comedians, cabaret singers and live bands perform.

Thoresby Hall has a mix of older people and younger people with something for everyone.  It is such a huge place that you can make your own break and do as little or as much as you want.

If you think you'd like to treat yourself to a little TLC at Thoresby Hall, you can now save £100 on a two night break*.

Win a weekend at the Umi Hotel, London

Umibar1_2
Umi is a new, fun, friendly hotel in the leafy Rococco streets of Bayswater. The six floor mansion townhouse has been converted to accommodate three function rooms, a coffee shop, small internet cafe and 117 comfortable rooms.

UmifrontOne of the best things about this hotel is the lively atmosphere. As soon as you walk in from the hush of the garden square outside, you notice the general hubbub around the coffeeshop-cum-breakfast room (with smooth, fresh coffee and homemade pancakes - yum). Then there's the well-manned reception and the concierge desk which will organise all the tours, tickets and taxis you need to make the most of a London stay and, downstairs, a fully stocked cocktail bar and evening dining area which is a great place to chill out and meet other guests in the evening. The director, Steve, has a great policy when it comes to his staff - only employing people who want a career in hospitality - which means that all of this hubbub is run smoothly by enthusiastic and communicative staff.

Cafe The hotel also acts as a showcase for the work of student artists meaning that instead of a tacky reproduction image (or, god forbid, one of those Ikea-style close-up of a dewy petal) you're likely to have an entirely original print or photograph in your room. It's not often you get this kind of creative flair in a three star hotel. But then, Umi is a special kind of a three-star. All of the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, plug-in or wireless internet access, plasma TVs with freeview and the option of a laptop-sized safe. This makes it perfect for business travel as well as tourists.

UmiroomOf course, one of the best things about a Bayswater/Notting Hill address is how close it is to the centre of town. This neighbourhood has all the convenience of Kings Cross or Paddington, but buckets more class. The museums in West Kensington are just a short bus or tube journey away. The local pubs that dot the quiet, green streets around the hotel are perfect for Sunday afternoon pints and, of course, Portobello Road is famous for its shopping and has some of the coolest bars in London (just check out Trailer Happiness if you need proof). All just a stroll away.

If you think you'd like to spend the weekend at Umi Hotel, enter our competition.

Please note: this competition is now closed.

Or, if you'd rather not leave it to chance, find out more and check availability.

Rugby_vs_saRugby World Cup: England vs. South Africa, Paris
With Barkley, Vickery and Wilkinson off the team, England’s sorry-looking odds are England’s odds are 7:2 compared to South Africa’s 2:11.  The Guardian are even asking, is this the worst world cup team England have ever had? Whatever the stats say, though, there’ll be hundreds of dedicated fans who’ll be finishing work early on Friday and hopping on the eurostar to cheer them on come rain or shine. After all, you don’t need a stadium ticket to soak up the World Cup atmosphere. We have tickets for lots of World Cup games right here.
If you can't make it out there though, there's always the rugby gift box or more memorabilia. Plus you can celebrate our victory (fingers crossed) with a case of mixed wine with a free bottle of champers.

Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival

The 2007 Dublin festival has already enjoyed record box office sales. The festival will be celebrating its 50th year too; from 27th September to 14th October it's your chance to see some of the freshest young talents on stage side by side with the wit and wisdom of some old hands.
Here are our Dublin festival highlights:

Our hot one to watch:
DublinLong Day's Journey into Night, Gaiety Theatre, Dublin - October 2 to 13
Eugene O Neill is regarded as America's greatest dramatist and Long Day's Journey into Night his finest play. Add to that with the stage presence of one of America's greatest actors, James Cromwell, and you're on to a winner.

The Playboy of the Western World,
Abbey Theatre, Dublin
In this contemporary re-imagining of  Synge’s great classic, the Playboy is Christopher Malomo, a well-educated refugee from Nigeria, on the run after he ‘killed’ his father with a pestle for pounding yams.

Fragments, Tivoli Theatre, Dublin - October 9 to 14
A new production featuring five of Peter Brook's shorter plays, Come and go, Rough for Theatre I, Rockaby, Act Without Words II and Neither. The revered director’s sinuous, stripped-back productions reveal all the angry warmth of the dark, despairing, and often comical, life-celebrating humanist, Samuel Beckett.

James son of James, Samuel Beckett Theatre, Dublin
James returns home for his father’s funeral having been away for 11 years. He is late and misses the burial by a day and a half. Not long afterwards he becomes embroiled in a powerful story of heroes, love, powers and revenge.

The History Boys, Olympia Theatre, Dublin - October 9 to 13
In Alan Bennett’s remarkable play, staff-room rivalry and the anarchy of adolescence provoke insistent questions about history and how you teach it; about education and its purpose. The History Boys comes to Dublin after sell-out tours of the West End and Broadway.

Homeland, Olympia Theatre, Dublin - September 28 & 29
Twenty-first century America has changed, and is rapidly becoming a radically different place. Homeland looks at American obsessions with security, distance, information, the relationship of fear and freedom, the increasing acceptance of violence, and the persistent new language of war.

The Grand Inquisitor, Tivoli Theatre, Dublin - October 10 to 14
Head back 500 years to Seville during the worst excesses of the Spanish Inquisition. In this chilling parable on religious faith and freedom of choice, hundreds of heretics are being burned at the stake, when hope suddenly returns with the arrival of a Christ-like figure that cures the sick and raises the dead...

Private Peaceful,  The Ark Theatre, Dublin - October 8 to 9 - only €10
Based on the award-winning book by the third Children’s Laureate and best-selling author Michael Morpurgo, Private Peaceful relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn.
