We broke out our pom poms last night at the Hammersmith Apollo for the High School Musical stage show. While my 4 and 3 year old companions knew everyword, I hadn't even seen the film!
I haven't been to the Hammersmith Apollo for a few years, in fact I had forgotten how easy it is to find from the stations. It's even easier at the moment as swarms of small children clad in their cheerleader & basketball outfits marked the route. Imagine an airport runway lit not with lights but with Neon pink.
The show itself is very Disneyfied. If you haven't experienced the phenomenon of High School Musical, then be prepared for a shock. The kids know every song and dance move. The stars are idolised in almost Beckhamesque proportions, in fact Gabriella is almost the new Marilyn.
Expect cheers and tears in equal proportions. The audience are really into the story line. We don't want to ruin the story for you but here are some tips to help you make the most of the night.
If you aren't going with children, then borrow a niece, brother, cousin etc.. You may be the only one without young ones in tow.
Go all the way, most people are dressed up and at the very least you need to bring some pom poms
The songs are in a different order to the movie and some are sung by different characters. This may confuse some of the smaller fans
The show doesn't finish till 22:00 so be prepared to carry tired limbs home.
The stall seats are quite low for very little children, you may want to bring them something to sit on or choose a seat a bit higher up in the venue.
Oh, and how was the show I hear you ask? You'll have to go and find out for yourself. Just keep your eye out for a worm and a glow in the dark basketball!
You should be careful about these products.
