The summer clubbing season starts with a bang today as the most famous club night in the world opens it doors to the public. In 2007 Manumission moved over the road from the famous Privilege club that it had occupied since 1993 to it’s San Rafealean neighbour Amnesia.
With a capacity of 5000, Amnesia is one of the world’s largest nightclubs (but no where near the biggest in Ibiza). While many first time clubbers to the white island think that the famous super clubs are located in the holiday resort of San Antonio, they are in fact dotted all around the island itself. Here’s a quick guide to where to find them
• Space – Playa D’en Bossa
• Pacha – Ibiza Town
• Eden – San Antonio
• Privilege – San Rafael
• Amnesia – San Rafael
• El Divino – Ibiza Town
• Es Paradis – San Antonio
• DC10 – Playa D’en Bossa
• Café Mambo – San Antonio
• Café Del Mar – San Antonio
While each club is famous in its own right, the real key is finding the club night that is best for you. Take a look at one of the various club guides and you’ll find a wealth of listings with hundreds of djs playing a week throughout the island. Each night tends to specialize in a particular style of dance music. Many of the UK’s biggest club nights host these special nights and bring over their resident djs as well as special big name guests
Here’s our pick of some the biggest opening nights in Ibiza this summer:
• We love Space opens up for summer on June 15 with a headline set from 2 Many djs
• Roger Sanchez hosts the opening night of Release Yourself at Pacha on June 16
• Flip & Fill headline the Clubland Opening Party at Es Paradis on June 24
• The Kinky Malinki vs Kidology Opening Party is at El Divino on June 26
There are other things to remember when travelling to Ibiza for the first time, here are some tips from our Ibiza regulars.
Most of the big club nights take place on different days of the week. It’s worth planning where you want to go (and on what night) as soon as you arrive. Tickets for the most prestigious club nights, such as the glamorous nights at Pascha, tend to be a lot more difficult to come by so if you get a chance of tickets then you should make your decision quickly. Tickets for the big clubs can be expensive (up to €50 each) so you need to make the most of each visit. Some club tickets include a free drink and it’s worth choosing an expensive one, for example some of the bigger clubs charge over €20 for a Jack Daniels and Coke.
Head out of San Antonio to go to the best beaches, but don’t go early. The Ibizan breakfast tends to be taken about 15:00 in the afternoon. Lunch is taken around sunset and even then most people won’t arrive at the super clubs till around 01:00am. Keep your ears to the ground to find out which of the smaller bars have the superstar djs playing smaller sets in the afternoon. This is especially important when Radio 1 land on the Island at the beginning of August
