I never had the desire to jump out of a plane. I never wanted to feel the wind beneath my hair. I certainly never trusted my hand eye coordination to save me from certain doom. When it was suggested to me that I should do this excursion, the conversation went a bit like this;
Dan "This week we want you to go indoor skydiving"
Sean"No chance"
Dan"No seriously, we want you to go into skydiving"
Sean"No chance"
Dan"Get a move on, you're going to miss your train"
Sean"Nope"
Dan"Move, Now!"
So after a quick diversion to the toilet (and to next), I set off to the centre just outside Bedford
Now to be honest, I don't scare that easily when it comes to thrill seeking experiences. I've done the usual ones like bungee jumps, zorbing et all but for some reason this was a bit different. I have to admit that I was nervous for this one.
I shouldn't have been though. The staff helped loads and are actually inside the wind tunnel with you. Once I heard that they filmed the latest Bond movie here (and that even Richard Hammond had been in) I calmed down a tad. I mean if the hamster can do it, anyone can. He can't even drive a dragster properly.
The thing to remember with the skydiving is that they ask you to be there an hour before. You really need to be and I wasn't. I got lost! In that hour they tell you what you need to do to fly properly and how important it is to relax. My lateness is the reason that I was unable to do the flying as well as every one else (see video above).
It is absolutely great fun, but you really want to go with a friend (you can take your friend for free, if you book your ticket on lastminute.com) as you get to fly at the same time. You even get a free DVD at the end.
Here's a few tips for you if you fancy having a go
1. It is quite a way from Bedford Train station so you might need to get a taxi and plan in some extra journey time.
2. Don't put the postcode in to a sat nav, use the street name or you'll never get there.
3.Take notice of the explanation of the symbols by the instructors, you won't be able to hear in the chamber
4. Don't drink alcohol or coffee before you go, your heart will be racing enough
5. Wear loose clothing and trainers. Leave your jewellery at home
and finally
6.relax, and you'll enjoy it more. Don't be a big girl like me!
Truly amazing!
